I will never sell your personal information

by Michael Ellis (12/15/2006)

It really doesn't matter if you're new to Internet Marketing (IM) or a veteran with many years of experience behind you; it is a very common trap for many in this field to try and follow the advice of several established and well known Internet Marketing Gurus', concurrently. I've certainly fallen for this mistake myself.

In fact, my personal experience, and experience I have in helpings others, has shown me that listening to too many gurus is one of the top reasons for Internet Marketing failure. It was definitely one of my biggest reasons for failed projects.

I'm an avid reader, and once I was bitten with the Internet Marketing bug, I hunted down information on just about every IM Guru, then went out and purchased their courses. It wasn't long before I found myself with a whole lot of exciting ideas, and before I knew what hit me, several months had gone by and I was still very excited about all the new things I had learned and continue to learn. There was one major problem, however, I wasn't doing anything but learning! I needed to take what I knew and apply it...I needed to take the next step.

However, a lot of people (again, I will include myself) don't feel comfortable taking the next step. Let's face it, the next step of implementing what you've learned can be a very brutal experience - it's the step that tells you whether your past several months of excitement was warranted, or just a snow job. So it's always easier to just pick up the next good IM book and tell yourself that you'll start something afterward. Unfortunately, there's always another good book or course to read, and when you're done reading the next course, most of the main points from the previous book will be long forgotten.

Over the years I learned that the best learning experiences come from implementation. I firmly believe that. Seminars and books can all point you to the right direction, but they can't replace experience – they can't do the job for you. Once you have a good idea – from some Guru's book, seminar, or whatever - try it. Commit your time and energy to that one idea or technique and stick with it. You're going to either fail or succeed. If you succeed, great, take it to the next level. If you fail, investigate why you failed – find out what you can do differently. Don't jump into another book written by some other Guru, which will just take your mind away from learning why your project failed.

Study a Guru. Become closely familiar with their techniques, and then dedicate 100% of your time and energy to try to replicate their success. Don't worry about any other IM Guru's during this time!
